The Native Learning Center (NLC) is a Tribally owned and operated center that offers free courses and training to Native Americans designed to address specific educational needs of Tribal members and Communities. The NLC is a resource and training center offering culturally specific training and courses for Native Americans, including life skills, budgeting, small business education, economic development, housing strategies and grants management. The NLC emphasizes using a “best-practices” curriculum that shares and teaches proven and successful initiatives and policies from person to person, tribe to tribe. What types of courses does the NLC offer? Programs and resources at the NLC focuses on (5) main areas; Celebrating Culture & Language, Financial Wellness, Grants Education, Housing Strategies, and Tribal Government. Courses and training at NLC are specifically for Indigenous people and are uniquely ‘Native-centric’ in the subjects and teaching styles offered. It’s FREE!!!! When and where is the NLC going to have another training session? Classes, subjects and schedules are posted on our website, check out our Events and Calendar regularly for upcoming class info and training schedules. How does the NLC benefit the Tribal and Native Communities? The NLC provides culturally focused courses and training for all different kinds of learners designed specifically to benefit Native communities. With an emphasis on providing outreach to all Indigenous people, our “Train the Trainer” programs are a priority, wherein tribal members will be trained to teach in their own communities thus expanding their tribe’s capabilities and teaching self-sufficiency. What are the financial courses about? The Financial Wellness courses at NLC cover a variety of timely and important subjects, including; basic budgeting, banking procedures, loan qualification and credit - all going above and beyond what is currently being offered to Native communities and individuals. Classes focusing on small business education, economic development, and housing strategies are also offered. Please visit our Register Now page for more information. How do we get more information on Grants? The Grants section of our website has a self-guided section containing lots of information on grants and grant resources. The NLC knows that the entire grant process can be confusing and complicated, so we also have a Grants Hotline you can call to speak to a real person who can help answer your questions on grants. Call the NLC’s resident Grants Administrator, at 1-866-973-2760. If he does not have the answer to your question on the tip of his tongue, he will research it and get back to you. If we are unable to attend a training session, is there another source we would be able to contact for assistance? At this time, the NLC will only be offering on-site training within Florida; however, we do offer all of our courses through a variety of distance-learning methods, allowing those who cannot travel access to NLC courses and training materials. |
