The purpose of this 3-day training is to highlight best practices and the development of a financial management system for a small to medium sized Tribe/TDHE managing Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) funds. Usually, the Tribes/TDHEs operate their housing programs with limited staff and in most cases, use fee accountants to assist with some accounting functions, financial preparation and reporting, and works with the auditors on behalf of the organization. With this in mind, the training serves as an orientation to basic standards of accounting and GAAP, financial statements, and accounting transactions in a typical small Tribe/TDHE, and implementation of a strong financial management system and related internal controls in order to comply with the general provisions of 2 CFR Part 200.302 Financial Management, as well as compliance with the NAHASDA statutes and regulations.
